Sports Betting – How to Maximize Winnings and Minimize Losses

Everyone knows that when you bet on sports- bookmakers are the ones who usually who profit as their odds are pretty efficient. As the old saying goes, “The House Always Wins.” And personally most people should never resort to sports betting as their main source of income. I also think that betting on sports makes thing much more interesting and much more fun. One of the problems with betting on sports is how much you want to bet. For instance- if you bet a large amount and you lose- it sucks, but if you bet an amount that is small and you win- you might feel good but it almost seems like a waste.

If I am going to bet, I want to lose a little or win a lot. I think the best way to do that is on They have a Progressive Parlay System. First, a Parlay system is where you chose a certain amount of games (usually up to 12) and rewards successful bettors with a large payout. For example a bettor could include four different wages in a four-team parlay, whereby he is wagering that all four bets will win. If any of the four bets fails to cover, the bettor loses the parlay, but if all four bets win, the better receives a substantially higher payout (usually 10-1 in the case of a four-teamer) than if he made the four wagers separately. This payout is great, but if you miss one, you lose.

The Progressive Parlay works a little differently. In the Progressive Parlay, the payouts are not quite as high, but you can afford to get games wrong. It is an insurance to your bet- which is definitely worth it. Here is the table for the payouts for the Progressive Parlay at Sportsbook.

All selections win

4 Teams

5/1- 0 losses

1/1- 1 loss

5 Teams

11/1- 0 losses

2/1- 1 loss

6 Teams

20/1- 0 losses

9/2- 1 loss

7 Teams

40/1- 0 losses

4/1- 1 loss

1/2- 2 losses

8 Teams

75/1- 0 losses

10/1- 1 loss

2/1- 2 losses

9 Teams

150/1- 0 losses

20/1- 1 loss

5/2- 2 losses

10 Teams

250/1- 0 losses

25/1- 1 loss

3/1- 2 losses

1/1- 3 losses

11 Teams

400/1- 0 losses

60/1- 1 loss

5/1- 2 losses

1/1- 3 losses

12 Teams

900/1- 0 losses

80/1- 1 loss

10/1- 2 losses

3/1- 3 losses

So after looking at this chart, you can see that if you miss 1 out of your 4, 2 out of your 7, or 3 out of your 10 picks and still make money. The best odds are to pick 10 because you can miss 30 percent of your picks, and still come out ahead. If you were to hit all 10 though you would make 250 times your initial bet. So, say you bet 10 dollars- and you pick 10 games. If I were to get 7 of them right- I would make 20 dollars. If I were to pick 8 right, I would make 30 dollars, 9 right- 250$, and all 10 right- 2500$. Of course it is extremely difficult to pick all 10 right. But this is all from a bet of 10 dollars.

Free Bets: How to Play for Free In Online Casino and Poker Rooms

Many of us enjoy the thrills of the casinos and poker tables. However we aren’t overly keen on losing our hard-earned cash. Thankfully, there are a number of ways in which you can play in virtual casinos for free; but just how can this be done?

The first way in which online casinos will offer free bets to customers is straight forward. Upon registering and downloading their casino clients, you are provided with a welcome bonus. In most cases, these downloads are completely free.

You will receive these bonuses in one of two ways. The casino could give you a low number of free slot machine spins or table chips with no cash deposit required. Otherwise, you will be presented with your deposit matched up to a certain amount. Furthermore, there are some casinos that have ‘bonus codes’ which when entered give you access to further matched deposits and discounts.

Certain bookmakers will offer free bets online once you become part of their loyalty scheme. They boast incentives like cash back, free slot machine rolls and free chips to use at card tables. Granted, this will inevitably require payments to be made, however it is still something to consider for free play in the long-run.

Alternatively, there are some sites that will offer free casino games directly from your internet browser. These do not require any software downloading but they may ask for some form of registration. Moreover, sites like this will not involve cash deposits or rewards.

There are also trusted hosts that offer playing poker for free. When you have downloaded their software, you can sit at ‘play for fun’ tables that don’t ask for any deposits at all. In addition to this, you can go through poker tutorials that won’t cost you a penny either. The option of playing for cash is available if you decide you want to, but it isn’t compulsory.

Some websites allegedly offer completely free poker that can pay out cash prizes. They claim this is funded by affiliates, sponsors and advertising, with winning payments made to players through mediums such as PayPal. In this instance, you can weigh up the legitimacy of what’s on offer for yourself. However, it may be safer to stick with the trusted mainstream bookmakers.

Overall, there are several options available to players to enjoy casino games and poker for free. It is always advised to compare free bet offers from all the different websites and find a deal best suited to you.

Getting The Best Rakeback Deal

Playing online poker without rakeback means you’ll potentially be losing out on thousands of dollars over the lifetime of your account.

Most poker hands you take part in will feature the room charge known as the “rake”, the amount taken is dependent on the size of the pot. If the room didn’t take this charge they’d be letting you play on their tables for free so to put it bluntly, the rake is being taken from your table bankroll, bit by bit.

In just a year it isn’t unusual for an online poker account to play in excess of 100,000 hands, if you paid a conservative 15 cents in rake per hand you would have paid the poker room a massive $15,000 just for the privilege of using their tables.

Now, had you joined the poker room with a rakeback deal of 33% you would have received a payment of $5,000 back into your account, no strings attached. Rakeback providers have special agreements with many of the most reputable poker rooms to offer their players the very best rake back deals, by using a rakeback provider you are guaranteed the best rates and bonus codes.

Another benefit of using a rakeback provider is the extra cash giveaways, promotions such as “Rake Races” where the highest volume players during each month win cash prizes. Other rewards such as poker software registrations, free electrical goods, free tournament entries are available too. You can also refer your friends to a rakeback deal, not only will they thank you for helping their bankroll grow, you’ll receive a 3% referral bonus on top of your rakeback based on how much you referred friends play.

If you play online poker, you are leaving money on the table if you aren’t receiving monthly rakeback.

Why is Slot Machine Gambling Considered "The Crack Cocaine" of Gambling Addiction?

Why is slot machine gambling so addictive? Why is it coined the “crack cocaine of addiction”? Why is slot machine gambling considered to be the MOST addictive form of gambling that exists today?

I will try to answer these questions in this article. The questions are quite significant, and the answers can help to explain why so many people have gotten hooked on the “slots”, “pokies”, and “fruit machines”.

Slot machines use what is known to psychological behaviorists as “intermittent reinforcement” Basically, what this means is that a winning hand on a slot machine only happens sometimes.

This type of reinforcement is known to be very powerful because an individual is only rewarded at certain intervals. This can create an addictive reaction , resulting obsession quite easily. When you reward only sometimes., it is sure to create an obsessive reaction.

In addition, studies have shown that the neurotransmitter dopamine plays an important role in developing a gambling addiction. Dopamine is known as the “feel good” chemical. The illusions of patterns in slot machines, and the intermittent winning spins create a rush of dopamine in the brain that makes people desire continued play.

You have probably heard in the past that gambling addicts are “addicted to the action”and not really as interested in winning money like they may think they are. This is because the dopamine rush is so powerful and pleasurable, that the action of gambling becomes euphoric in its’ own right. It is a means it itself rather than a means to an end.

The role of dopamine is in the brain is very significant and powerful. Individuals with Parkinsons Diseases who were taking medications to increase dopamine in their brains were becoming addicted to gambling, specifically, slot machine gambling. Once these individuals stopped the medication, their addictive and obsessive gambling stopped. This happened to a significant amount of people taking these types of medications.

Slot machine addiction is considered to be the “crack cocaine” of gambling for a few different reasons.

Crack cocaine is one of the most highly addictive drugs that exists today. Slot machine gambling is also considered to be the most addictive form of gambling… hands down.

The two can also be compared to each other because of the very quick, accelerating progression of the addiction. A person can hit total despair and devastation with a slot machine addiction in one to three years. Other forms of gambling do not accelerate as quickly.

Another comparison is how both forms of addiction can create such debasement, despondency and despair because of the power and intensity of the addictive substance/behavior.

Stealing, prostitution, drugs, loss of job, marriage, and finances are common with both of these addictions. You may have heard horror stories of individuals with either of these addictions. These stories are all too common.

As you can see, it is very easy to compare slot machine addiction to crack cocaine addiction. The common characteristics of both addictions is quite impressive.

Why is Slot Machine Addiction Considered The MOST Addictive Form of Gambling?

This question is related to the above two areas that I have covered, except for a few other concepts which I believe are worth noting:

o Slot machines are designed by psychologists and other specialists who are specifically instructed to design slot machines to seduce and addict people.

o The new video mulit-line electronic slot machines have graphics and colors that are very compelling and stimulating to the eye.

o The music in video slot machines is very stimulating, repetitive, seductive , and truly reinforcing. There is strong subliminal suggestion in this.

o The bonus rounds in video slot machines can encourage continued play, even amidst great losses, since bonus rounds are very exciting and provide a rush.

o The speed of play, and the speed of modern slot machines keeps your adrenaline pumping, especially with all of the above factors.

o The jackpots in slot machines can be huge, however, the chances of winning these jackpots are equivalent to winning the powerball lottery, if not more improbable.

o Slot machines can be a place to “zone out”. Today’s slot machines can put you into a hypnotizing trance that is hard to break out of.

o Slot machines require little or no skill, making it easy to just sit there and push the buttons, without a thought, forethought, or contemplation.

o It is very easy to keep playing slot machines because all accept dollar bills, and give players coupons upon ending play. Money loses its’ value and becomes “monopoly” money.

o ATM Machines are usually in close proximity to the slot machines, again, encouraging continued play.

o Many slot machines use denominations of 1 cent to 5 cents. This fools the gambler into thinking that they are not spending much. What is not being said, however, is that the maximum bet can be as high as $15 to $20 per spin. Is this really a penny or nickel machine?

Line Shading by Bookmakers

A bookmaker will sometimes apply a technique known as ‘line shading’ to squeeze additional money out of a contest by deciding on what the big favorites or ‘public’ team will be.

Public teams are popular teams wagered on by a large segment of the betting public. These may be teams with promising super-stars or very popular players or head coaches, or merely teams that are doing very well in the public’s eyes. Not all favorite teams will deserve the betting interest that they receive, but some will.

The bookmaker will look at each match-up individually and shade the odds line if applicable – basically when he feels he can get an edge.

Location can heavily influence the market in the form of betting volume from fans. Players from the East Coast might bet on the Patriots, Giants or other Eastern seaboard teams. Fans from the West Coast might prefer San Francisco or the Raiders, with bettors from the Chicago area jumping on the Bears.

The majority of these players won’t really care (in betting terms) how their team is doing, they just want to bet a few dollars on their team and have a bit of fun.

As an example, if a favorite football team should be ‘correctly’ priced at -6.5 on the spread / handicap – the bookmaker may want to ‘shade’ the line to -7. That half a point move puts the line out to a critical spread number and this could reap rewards for the sportsbook if the action floods in. Equally where the line -2.5 the book may try it on at -3, another crucial points spread number.

There are of course teams that the public dislike, so the opposite is true here. The line may get pushed out from e.g +5.5 to +7.5 on the unpopular team, especially if they are up against a warm favorite, thereby creating some possible value on the dog team.

Bettors can be notoriously changeable, teams that don’t perform well can hurriedly be discarded as a public team, just as quickly as they were embraced – this applies more to some teams than others.

The bookmaker needs to stay alert to these changes and if he employs a good balance of skill and judgement, he can profit well from these situations.

Some books are said to be able to increase their profit margins by over 20% if they get it right.
